Bobcats On Route 66

From a post to the Paradise City Forum Yahoo group comes this photo of two bobcats on Route 66, along with an invitation to participate in a walk through the Sawmill Hills Conservation Area on New Years day. Photo credit is anonymous.

"Take a look at the two bobcats playing in the snow. The picture was taken by a wildlife lover living on Rt. 66. Incredible shot!

Join Valley Land Fund and Nonotuck Land Fund in a celebration of Nature in the new year. On January 1st at noon, members of both land preservation organizations invite you to a hike into the Sawmill Hills Conservation Area of Northampton. We will visit frozen vernal pools and hopefully see coyote, bobcat, and fox tracks. Members of the Northampton Wildlife Committee will be on hand to help identify tracks. We'll leave from the Avis Circle trail head, off of Ryan Road in Florence but we'll carpool from the Art's and Industries Bldg. Dress appropriately for a two hour hike, if there is snow on the ground you could bring snowshoes. If you don't have snowshoes that will be ok, the trail will be accessible once some of the hike leaders break the trail. Because of the focus on nature and its serenity we ask that people not bring their dogs on this hike. Come celebrate Nature on the first day of our new year!

Directions: From downtown Northampton, take Rt. 9 into Florence. Make a left onto Maple Street (at Bird's Variety). Go to the bottom of the hill and make a right onto Nonotuck Str. Go to the end and make a left onto Pine (at the Arts and Industries Bldg.). Once over the Bridge, make a right onto Spring Street and then the first right into the Elk's lodge and then proceed to the parking lot of the Art's and Industries Bldg. We'll carpool up the road to the Trailhead.

Have a great holiday season and a peaceful new year!
